The Bombay State Transport Corporation came into existence on April 14, 1952 under the Road Traffic Act and the Acts made thereunder. In 1956, the state was divided into two states, namely Gujarat and Maharashtra, and on 1 May, 1960, the state was divided into two emerging states based on transport currency area. Similarly, the traffic challan in Vidarbha and Marathwada which was under Provincial Transport Service Madhya Pradesh and Road Transport Department Hyderabad. The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation emerged after its merger with the Bombay State Road Transport Corporation. The said corporation is providing passenger transport services throughout the state of Maharashtra and outside the state as well. R.P. Security and vigilance account is a major and important account as per the structure of the corporation. Senior officers of the Indian Police Service are deputed to the post of head of this department by the government. This account is primarily referred to as the "eyes and ears" of the corporation regarding security work. Knowing the importance of this account, the Corporation has named it as "Security and Vigilance Account" since 1982. The work of this account is done confidentially.
